IN WILTON YOUTH BASEBALL IS THE ALL-AMERICAN SPORT

Opening Day for Wilton Youth Baseball and it starts with the march by the teams under the giant American Flag to Yankee Stadium. Gavin Park also has Camden Yards and Fenway Park but Yankee Stadium is home for the Wilton teams.

The Flag is so big it takes fire trucks from both Wilton Fire Companies to hoist it high to form an archway for the teams in their colorful uniforms to parade by parents and friends.Wilton supports Youth Baseball and it supports everything our Flag represents.

Parents were there Saturday May 10 (Threat of rain caused a shift to Saturday from the original Friday night opening ceremony). And they were there to support the values of sportsmanship and fair play that so characterize this American sport.

This will be the Third full season for Wilton Youth Baseball and Tom Coons, president of WYB had the pleasure of presenting WYB jackets to the returning 12 year old team members.

Tom also had the pleasure of thanking Doctor Rappaport and Palio

Communications for being major sponsors of the Opening Day Ceremonies. He then thanked Kirk Woodcock and his Highway Department (Kirk got a WYB baseball cap and it fit), Steve Porto and John King and the Rec crew at Gavin Park.

Tom had more good news. With the support of the Town WYB will have a new Babe Ruth field next to Fenway Park for older kids.

Lots of good things happening. With your help they will continue to happen. Tom made a plea for interested parents to get involved. Lots of opportunities to help and even board memberships. Check

Roy McDonald, Assemblyman and former Town Supervisor gave remarks and spoke of the vision that has grown to be our present Gavin Park.

Ray O'Conor, Deputy Supervisor, filled in for Art Johnson and threw out the first ball. The evening ended with fireworks at dusk.
