GAR is Grand Army of the Republic and they had their last encampment in Congress Park in 1907. Their memory was saluted Sep 17&18
Re-enactors and their horses pitched tents to bivouac
on the upper level of Congress Park.
Chilly nights but that doesn't bother our re-enactors who take pride in authenticity. and period clothes and weapons that might have been fired in the Civil War.
Drill instructors had young recruits parading and standing at attention.
And of course you can't have an encampment without firing off the cannon. Blank cartridges but authentic big bangs.
Lots to learn - not only about the battles but about medicine and everyday life in the camps of the armies.
Adirondack Trust again sponsored the encampment.
