What if you held a parade and everyone came? That's pretty much exactly the perfect description of Ballston Spa's anniversary parade. As the participants marched proudly down the main streets of the county seat, you could see representatives from every surrounding town village and city, as well as from organizations ranging from the Boy Scouts to the Lions, to the Teamsters. And many of the local businesses made their entries as well.
All told, from start to finish it took nearly two hours for everyone in the parade to finish the march down Route 50, right onto Front Street, and the along Front street and up to the fair grounds. Where the festivities continued with Family fun days.
Some of the entries were similar to each other (Multiple marching bands and two separate bagpipe corps. Others were more unique. Milton's waterwheel was unlike any others, and the Lama's at the end. Plus there was only one Studebaker with tank treads in the whole parade.
Still, one of the entries that really stood out was Elms Farms Cow Wagon Ride or
"Moo Moo Choo Choo" featuring a train of one person units pulled behind the main trailer as it serpentined down the street. I guess Elms saw the parade as the perfect chance to show off the neatest addition to their corn maze this year.. If you missed the Parade you'll find the ride featured at the Corn Maze opening September 22.
The next big event coming to Ballston Spa is the Annual The Way We Were Car Show Sunday October 7. Wiswall Park and Front Street (Front will be closed to traffic) will be filled with classic, antique and muscle cars, trucks, street rods and more. It's free and always a crowd-pleaser. Barbecue and fried dough vendors, too.
The last free Thursday Concert in Wiswall Park is this Thursday August 30 and features Justin Carey and Friends playing Classic Country. Bring your blanket or your folding Saratoga Chair.
